Leslie was once named “Most Likely to Color-Code Her Plans to Grassroots Resistance” by her high school speech and debate team and things have only gotten more on-brand from there.
While completing her Ph.D. in Psychology, she island-hopped around the Caribbean providing research and statistical support for local gang violence prevention programs, lobbied on Capitol Hill in support of paid family and medical leave for all American employees, and helped develop her alma mater’s first peer education and outreach program focused on sexual and gender-based violence. Afterwards, she taught social justice- and science communication-focused psychology courses to nearly 4,000 students as a college professor, won some national teaching awards for her work, and published her writing in The Chronicle of Higher Education, Science Magazine, and The Huffington Post.
She also wrote a dissertation once, but her proudest accomplishment is headlining her field’s annual teaching conference with a Taylor Swift-themed ✨ Eras Keynote ✨ in memoriam of her college teaching career.
